While the mold that most of us are informed of and seen on the news is toxic, deadly, and black, not all of these display every one of these attributes. Indeed molds exist that appear to be toxic and black, but this does not form the whole party of molds that you may discover existing in your house. It comes with a lot of different colors and is able to live inside locations that one would not normally think of. For instance, you tends to believe a desert might be one of the last places that you might find mold growing, but truthfully it is one of the environments that mold thrives in the most, very much so around households.
Perhaps you have done an inspection around your residence recently and have not discovered some evidence of mildew, but do you actually possess the knowledge on how and where to test? How can you tell if you should look at all? Do you have some habits that would be friendly to mold finding its way into your household and you could have your answer. Do you scrub soaked clothes and other things quickly or do they get thrown into the back of the latrine closet? Do you dump dry clothing over the top..? If you do this, then you could have a mold problem.
Mold loves to start culturing after around 24 hours, especially on wet clothes. The infection will expand to the dry clothes that you have over them and if they are on a carpeted surface, then it may spread to the carpet and filling under it. This could cause a much bigger issue, because as carpet padding is molded, it has to be thrown away. It cannot be disinfected. If your dishwasher leaks water, is the floor sealed water tight? If not, you might have water damage. You had better not use your dishwasher while it is leaking. Your parents and grandparents have never been too good to wash dishes manually, so it will not be too challenging to do this until the issue is repaired. Is the cellar moist or have water leaks in it?
Does the basement have carpet anywhere inside it? Does it smell dirty? This is a good sign that mold might exist down there and if possible, take care of the humidity issue first. Your laundry should never be let to dry inside the basement and the dryer has to be properly vented to the outer part of a household. Use an exhaust vent or a dehumidifier to assist get rid of the humidity, if practical.
